Ropework: Processing Beauty

September 2023 exhibition at Allied Arts,

aka The Gallery At The Park, Richland WA

In preparation for my show at Allied Arts (I can't get used to calling them by their new name, The Gallery At The Park), I sent Tumbleweird a version of my artist statement and a dozen pictures of recent work. What I didn't know was that someone from the gallery had also sent Tumbleweird an annoucement and show description. Tumbleweird ended up printing all of it, with the show description by Allied's Marisa Quirk, printed as an introduction to my statement, and our text surrounded by images. You can see pages 14 and 15 of the September issue of Tumbleweird above, and the whole text can be found enlarged here.

Scattered around the gallery were collections of whole ropes. These turned out to be the most popular item in the show, I suspect due to being both beautiful and affordable.

Although not for sale, the first ten volumes of the "Catalog" were on display. The first 12 to 13 inches of every rope made are added to a growing catalog, that takes the form of a strip of black canvas onto which the peices of rope are attached and the volume is then rolled up. Volumes 1-9 were rolled up and stacked and volume 10 was unrolled for examination.

More pictures and information on the pole mounted and canvas mounted works from this show can be found

here.
